The Ivors Classical Awards 2023 Releases Nominees

Thirty-four composers have been nominated for an Ivor Novello Award as part of The Ivors Classical Awards 2023.

Toby Young is nominated for best community and participation composition for his “It Takes a City.” Jasdeep Singh Degun and Tom Coult compete with Brian Irvine who hold two nominations in the best stage work category. Ben Nobuto, Omri Kochavi, and Naomi Pinnock are nominated for best choral composition.

Nearly all of the nominated works were commissioned. Commissioners of this year’s nominations include Britten Pears Arts, National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Proms, Irish National Opera, Opera North, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.

The Ivors Classical Awards are set to take place on Nov. 14 at the BFI Southbank in London, where 11 Ivor Novello Awards will be presented to eight category winners and three Gift of the Academy award winners. One of the Gift of the Academy Awards goes to John Rutter CBE who will be awarded the Academy Fellowship, Ivors’ highest honor.

BBC Radio 3 will broadcast the ceremony on Nov. 18 in a special edition of the New Music Show and on BBC Sounds.
