Britten Pears Arts Unveils Autumn 2023 Programming

Britten Pears Arts has unveiled its Autumn 2023 season. Here is a rundown of the classical vocal performances.

Mezzo Anna Huntley and pianist Lucy Colquhoun present a recital of songs by Schubert, and Britten, among others.

Performance Date: Oct. 6, 2023

There will be two “Scratch Choir days.” The first features music by Emma Lou Diemer and Vaughan Williams, conducted by Ben Vonberg-Clark.

Performance Date: Oct. 13, 2023

The 2023-24 Britten Pears Young Artists Program will deliver a recital at the Britten Studio that focuses on English song. Prior to this event, there will be a series of masterclasses with Juliet Faulkner, Gweneth Ann Rand, Julius Drake, and Audrey Hyland.

Performance Date: Oct. 15, 2023

Next up is a performance featuring tenor Allan Clayton, horn player Martin Owen, and the Britten Sinfonia as they take on the Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings, among other works. This performance will be preceded by a study morning by Dr. Lucy Walker and Clayton, among others.

Performance Date: Oct. 15, 2023

The English Touring Opera will present “La Cenerentola” and “The Coronation of Poppea.” More information on casting here.

Performance Date: Oct. 26 – 28, 2023

Mezzo Lottie Betts-Dean and accordionist Ryan Corbett will present a program of music by Monteverdi, Weill, Purcell, and Joni Mitchell.

Performance Date: Oct. 27, 2023

The second “Scratch Choir Day” features Britten’s “A Ceremony of Carols,” conducted by Ben Vonberg-Clark.

Performance Date: Dec. 20, 2023

Dominic Ellis-Peckham conducts “The Messiah” with artists from the Britten Pears Young Artist Programme, the Suffolk Ensemble, and the Aldeburgh Voices.

Performance Date: Dec. 21, 2023

Additionally, audiences will be able to interact with open sessions featuring baritone Peter Brathwaite and VOICEBOX.
