St. Louis’ Union Avenue Opera has confirmed that despite the damages to its artistic home, the company will move forward with its 31st Festival Season this summer.
The organization revealed that a structural engineer gave the green-light to hang a lighting grid in the sanctuary of the Union Avenue Christian Church which had been damaged by a storm earlier this month. The storm caused damage to several windows in the facility, including two in the sanctuary and three in Union Avenue Opera’s costume shop.
The company also revealed that it is seeking out volunteers to help clean the Sanctuary to prepare it for the new season, while also asking for support to shoulder the cost of repairs.
The festival opens on July 5 with “My Fair Lady” and includes productions of “Josephine / Pagliacci” and “Salome.”
