Basque Educational Organization to Present Documentary-Style Concert at San Francisco’s Presidio Theatre
By David SalazarThe Basque Educational Organization will present The History of Basque Music: A Living Portrait of an Ancient Land on Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. at the Presidio Theatre in San Francisco.
The one-night-only West Coast exclusive brings together pianist Josu Okiñena, txistulari Garikoitz Mendizabal, and soprano Noelia Ibáñez for an evening that traces Basque musical heritage through live performance, narration, and visual storytelling.
“For the Basque people, music has never just been entertainment — it’s how they’ve carried their history, their language, and their identity forward through centuries of trying to be silenced. What we’re presenting on September 26th honors that. It’s not a concert. It’s a story being told the way Basque people have always told it — through sound, through voice,” said Anna Marie Etcheverria, Chairwoman of the Basque Educational Organization, per an official press release.
The event is co-presented by the Basque Educational Organization, Eusko Jaurlaritza · Gobierno Vasco, and Etxepare Euskal Institutua.
