Union Avenue Opera Unveils 2024 Season
By David SalazarSt. Louis’ Union Avenue Opera has unveiled its 2024 season, the 30th in the company’s history.
“It is wonderful to kick off our 30th season and look back on all the incredible work by many that has brought us to this point” said Founding Artistic Director Scott Schoonover in an official press statement. “Thirty promises to be a grand season of opera classics, monumental vocalism, and finally, finding the truth in fairytales. I can’t wait to present these epic stories on our stage.”
The season opens with “Carmen” starring Elise Quagliata, Brendan Tuohy, Joel Balzun, and Meroë Khalia Adeeb. Scott Schoonover conducts and Mark Freiman directs the classic.
Performance Dates: July 5 – 13, 2024
Next up is “Aida” in a concert version. Limmie Pulliam headlines the cast of the Verdi opera that also includes Marsha Thompson, Melody Wilson, and Lloyd Reshard.
“I’ve wanted to do ‘Aida‘ for many, many years, but it’s always seemed too big for Union Avenue Opera to do it justice if it were performed with a fully realized production,” said Schoonover. “This is not a permanent change to our way of doing things – just a one-time diversion in our thirtieth season in order to bring this masterpiece to Union Avenue audiences.”
Performance Dates: July 26 – August 3, 2024
The season ends with “Into the Woods.”
Performance Dates: August 16 – 24, 2024
