Conductor James Lockhart passed away on Feb. 26, 2025 at the age of 94. Lockhart was born on Oct. 16, 1930, in Edinburgh. He studied at the Royal College of Music and gave his UK premiere at All Souls Church, Langham Place. Latvian conductor Ainars Rubikis has been named the Generalmusikdirektor of Staatstheater Kassel starting during the 2025-6 season. Rubikis was the General Music Director of the Komische Oper Berlin and was responsible for the musical fortunes of one of the country’s most renowned opera houses.
