Lin Lin Fan & Ulrike Schneider Headline Bach’s ‘Weihnachtsoratorium’ at Staatstheater Kassel

The Staatstheater Kassel has announced its upcoming premiere of Johan Sebastian Bach’s “Weihnachtsoratorium.”

The Bach work will star soprano Lin Lin Fan, alto Ulrike Schneider, tenor Andrés Felipe Agudelo, and bass Sam Taskinen. Kiril Stankow conducts a production by Jochen Biganzoli with dramaturgy by Sarah Schnoor. Katharina Weissenborn will be responsible for costume design.

The oratorio is set to open on Dec. 5, and will run until Dec. 28, 2021, for a total of eight performances.

Per a press release, the opera house will also present a scenic Liederabend “Kriegsspiele” with music by Mahler, Brahms, and Finzi. Baritone Hansung Yoo and bass Michael Tews star. Giulia Glennon conducts a production by Ariane Kareev.

The premiere of “Kriegsspiele” is set for Nov. 23, with an additional performance on Dec. 4, 2021.

The Staatstheater Kassel is currently performing Puccini’s “Tosca” and Berg’s “Wozzeck.” Both operas are set to run into late December 2021.
