Staastheater Wiesbaden Names New Music Director

By Francisco Salazar

The Staastheater Wiesbaden has named Leo McFall its new General Music Director.

McFall will take the position beginning during the 2024-25 season.

The Director will take up the position simultaneously as Dorothea Hartmann and Beate Heine begin their dual directorships.

McFall will succeed Patrick Lange, who resigned from his position early in 2022 following differences with the previous director Uwe-Eric Laufenberg.

In a statement from the Hessian Ministry of Science and Art, McFall has “a strong interest in new and unusual forms of musical theater and concerts” and loves “contemporary repertoire as well as the popular classics.”

McFall is the Principal Conductor of the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, and Chief Conductor of Symphonieorchester Vorarlberg. He also has a strong association with the Alma Mahler Kammerorchester, an ensemble of young musicians from top European orchestras. He has also conducted the BBC Philharmonic, the Hanover Band, Orchestre National de Lyon, Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse, Dortmund Philharmonic, Belgrade Philharmonic, Oulu Sinfonia and Kuopio Symphony Orchestras.
