OperaDelaware presents “Don Giovanni Portraits,” a chamber arrangement of Mozart’s opera, at OperaDelaware Studios on the Riverfront on Oct. 8 and Oct. 10.

This version, presented ahead of a full production of “Don Giovanni” at The Grand Opera House, is arranged for reduced forces by Husan Chun Novak, who also conducts and plays. The cast includes Gerard Moon as Don Giovanni, Esther Tonea as Donna Anna, Caitlin Crabill as Donna Elvira, Norman Shankle as Don Ottavio, Timothy Mix as Leporello, Amanda Sheriff as Zerlina, and Steven M. Warnock as Masetto.

Alongside the production, which is OperaDelaware is presenting with Opera Baltimore, is a three part virtual lecture series, “Opera Insights on Don Giovanni,” led by Dr. Aaron Ziegel, Associate Professor and Division Leader of Music History and Culture at Towson University. The free sessions run Sept. 22, Sept. 29, and Oct. 6, and will cover the musical drama of the opera’s opening scene, a discussion of the work’s principal female roles with members of the cast, and a comparison of Mozart’s opera with Giuseppe Gazzaniga’s contemporaneous telling of the same story.
