
Sonya Headlam, Angela Meade, J’Nai Bridges, & Won Whi Choi Star in Trinity Church’s 2025 Spring Season

Trinity Church has unveiled its 2025 spring season.
For the purposes of this article only classical vocal concerts are included.
Soprano Sonya Headlam opens the season in “Sunday Afternoon Music,” featuring works by Ignatius Sancho, Florence Price, Margaret Bonds, Trevor Weston, Peter Ashbourne, and others.
Performance Date: February 2, 2025 (St Paul’s Chapel)
Melissa Attebury conducts the Trinity Choir in “Figure humaine.” This concert includes the works of Benjamin Britten, Ilse Weber, Elsa Barraine, Jacob Beranek, Francis Poulenc, and Kim André Arnesen.
Performance Date: February 13, 2025 (St Paul’s Chapel)
Frank Martin’s “Mass for Double Choir” is performed by Downtown Voices, Amor Artis, and the Trinity Baroque Orchestra. This concert also features pieces by Orazio Benevoli and Thomas Tallis. Ryan Brandau and Stephen Sands conduct.
Performance Date: March 6, 2025 (Trinity Church)
Thomas McCargar makes his Trinity conductorial debut with a program of music written for Lent and Holy Week, performed by the countertenors, tenors, and basses of the Trinity Choir. Additional pieces focusing on themes of loss are also programmed.

“Tilge, Höchster, meine Sünden” is performed by the Trinity Youth Chorus and Trinity Baroque Orchestra, conducted by Melissa Attebury. Trinity’s arrangement of Bach’s work is adapted to include tenor and bass voices both in chorus and solos.

Trinity Congregational Arts Allegro and NOVUS Renewal presents artists from Borough of Manhattan Community College Choirs and The Dorill Initiative in its “Sunday Afternoon Music: Emerging Artists” event. Student-led performances feature works that range from classical to musical theater.
Performance Date: April 27, 2025 (St. Paul’s Chapel)
Verdi’s “Requiem” is performed by the Dessoff Choirs, Trinity Choir, Downtown Voices, NOVUS, and soloists such as soprano Angela Meade, mezzo-soprano J’Nai Bridges, tenor Won Whi Choi, and bass-baritone Kevin Short. This concert also features a world premiere piece by Tania León. Malcolm Merriweather conducts.
Performance Date: May 1 & 2, 2025 (Trinity Church)
The “Bach at One” series features the works of Johann Sebastian Bach and Johann Christoph Bach such as “Vereinigte Zwietracht der wechselnden Saiten,” BWV 207, “Nun is das Heil und die Kraft,” BWV 50, “Der Geist hilft unser Schwachheit auf,” BWV 226, “Mein Freundin, du bist schön,” and “Ich hab in Gottes Herz und Sinn,” BWV 92, among others. Organist Avi Stein and Melissa Attebury lead the Trinity Choir and Trinity Baroque Orchestra in these concerts.

NOVUS presents “A João Carlos Martins Concert” with Martins, conducting. This concert features the works of Bach, Villa-Lobos, Astor Piazzolla, John Williams, and others.
Performance Date: May 9, 2025 (Carnegie Hall)
“Tiny Concerts” featuring the Trinity Choir and Trinity Baroque Orchestra with Avi Stein at the organ feature works by J.S. Bach and Heinrich Schütz. Each concert has two installments.
Performance Dates: May 15 & June 5, 2025 (The Chapel of All Saints)
Peyton Marion leads the Trinity Youth Chorus in “Of Such I Dream” in a concert of works by André J. Thomas, Ysaÿe M. Barnwell, and others.

Stephen Main’s “The Image” gets its world premiere by Downtown Voices and NOVUS. Jessie Montgomery’s “Divided” is also on the program. Stephen Sands conducts.
