
Russell Hepplewhite’s ‘Living Voices’ Choral Project to Get 10 Separate Premieres Across U.K.

The 10-part chorale works explores the poetry of 10 distinguished poets and their work. The works that make up “Living Voices” is as follows:

- Pam Ayres – “Leaving”
- Fiona Benson – “Three Trees/Angel”
- Joseph Coelho – “The Diarist’s Pages”
- Wendy Cope – “I Wake”
- Jamila Gavin – “Song of Flight”
- Roger McGough – “The Good Ship Attenborough’
- Andrew Motion – “from: Gravity Archives”
- Alice Oswald – “Riddle”
- Michael Rosen – “True Story’
“I Wake” will gets its premiere on April 5 with the Exeter Festival Chorus at St Peter’s Church in Budleigh Salerton. Then on May 10, the Gloucester Choral Society will premiere “Leaving.” May 17 will mark the premiere of “The Diarist’s Pages” with Highgate Chorale Society at St. Michael’s Church in Highgate, while “from: Gravity Archives” gets its turn in the spotlight on June 14 with the Wimbledon Choral Society.
“True Story” is next on the schedule on June 21 with Epsom Choral Society, which performs at St. Andrew’s Church in Cheam. On June 26, the Whitehall Choir will take “Riddle” to St. Andrew Holborn and on July 5 there will be three premieres: Birmingham Bach Choir will take “Song of Flight” to Malvern Priory, while Divertimento presets “Tender” at St. Nicholas Church in Warwick, and “The Good Ship Attenborough” gets its premiere with Hexham Orpheus Choir at Hexham Abbey.
The final showcase, on July 12, features the premiere of “Three Trees / Angel” at Alnwick Playhouse. Voices of Hope performs.
Per an official press release, the project is funded by private donations and support from the Finzi Trust.
