Ars Minerva will present the modern world premiere of Marc’Antonio Ziani’s “Andromeda” on Nov. 6 through 8 at the Creativity Theater in San Francisco.

The one-act chamber opera, which dramatizes the myth of Perseus and Andromeda and was composed in 1714 on a libretto by Pietro Pariati, has not been performed since its premiere for a small audience at the Habsburg Court on Nov. 4 of that year.

The cast features soprano Aura Veruni as Andromeda, contralto Sara Couden as Perseus, Sidney Ragland as King Cepheus, mezzo-soprano Kindra Scharich as Cassiopeia, and tenor Maxwell Ary as Agenore. Artistic Director Céline Ricci directs, and harpsichordist JungHae Kim conducts Ars Minerva’s period instrument orchestra.

Founded in 2013, Ars Minerva is one of the few companies in the world dedicated to reconstructing forgotten Baroque operas. Andromeda marks the company’s eleventh modern world premiere, following productions of works by Pallavicino, Freschi, Vinci, Sartorio, and others.
