Opera Austin Festival Unveils 2025 Slate

By David Salazar

Opera Austin Festival will return for its second annual edition on Nov. 15, 2025, running from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Draylen Mason Music Studio.

The 2025 festival will feature mainstage presentations by Suzette Emberton, Trevor Shaw, and Nathan Felix Opera Productions.  Shaw will premiere an excerpt from “City of Lantern Flies,” while Felix will present “Ribas-Dominicci,” based on Air Force hero Fernando Luis Ribas-Dominicci. Finally, Emberton will headline with “Buried Moon,” loosely inspired by the Scottish fairy tale.

A secondary Aria Stage will highlight new works by living composers and young artists selected via open call. Additional events include networking sessions, speed-dating, and panel discussions.

The festival emphasizes inclusive programming and community engagement, reflecting Austin’s culture of experimentation and new music. Sponsors include Parkside, The Backspace, Shine on 41st, Home Slice Pizza, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Texas Wine Collective, Costco, Batch Craft Beer and Kolaches, H-E-B, HighPour, Salt Lick Cellars, and Holy Word Lutheran Church.

This year’s media sponsor is KMFA Radio.

The Opera Austin Festival was launched by composer Nathan Felix in 2024 to spotlight newly written opera in Central Texas. The event earned “Best New Venture of 2024.”
