Metropolitan Opera Confirms ‘Jenůfa’ & ‘Salome’ with Asmik Grigorian in Future Seasons

The Metropolitan Opera has confirmed that Asmik Grigorian will be back following her debut in “Madama Butterfly.”

In an interview with the AP News, the company noted that in future seasons the Lithuanian soprano is set to perform Strauss’ “Salome” and Janacek’s “Jenůfa.”

Grigorian has performed both operas to great reviews. Regarding her “Salome” critics have stated, “she sings with every fibre of her being, pushes herself to her outer limits.” In regards to the “Jenůfa,” OperaWire said, she “sings with verve and panache. Hers is a powerful instrument, with plenty of gleam and brilliant, though its resources are carefully marshaled across the show, its delicacy and warmth deployed generously. ”

In the interview General Manager Peter Gelb added, “My only regret is not having booked her sooner. Asmik is an operatic force of nature, one of the greatest and most complete vocal and acting packages in recent operatic history.”

Following Butterfly, Grigorian is set to reprise “Turandot” at the Wiener Staatsoper and will sing Polina in “The Gambler” at the Salzburg Festival. She also sings “Norma” and “Don Carlo” in Vienna next season.
