Asmik Grigorian, Freddie De Tommaso, Elsa Dreisig, & Attilio Glaser Lead Theater an Der Wien’s 2024-25 Season

The Theater an der Wien has announced its 2024-25 season.

Monteverdi’s “Combattimenti” will star Ferran Albrich, Johanna Rosa Falkinger, Luciana Mancini, Ambra Biaggi, and Ilyà Dovnar. David Bergmüller conducts the production by Olivier Fredj.

Performance Dates: Sept. 27-Oct. 18, 2024

David Bates conducts Mozart’s “Idomeneo” in a new production by Stefan Herheim. The cast includes Attilio Glaser, Emily Sierra, Jeanine De Bique, Elena Tsallagova, Ya-Chung Huang, and Levente Páll.

Performance Dates: Oct. 12-24 2024 

The company will celebrate the Theater an der Wien reopening with music by Beethoven and Johann Strauss.

Schumann’s “Das Paradies und die Peri” will star Elsa Dreisig, Sarah Defrise, Samantha Hankey, Werner Güra, Cameron Becker, Daniel Schmutzhard, and Levente Páll.

Händel’s “Rodelinda Regina de’ Langobardi” will star Karina Gauvin, Raffaele Pe, Giuseppina Bridelli, Luigi Morassi, and Rafal Tomkiewicz. Raffaele Pe conducts.

Performance Date: Nov. 18, 2024

“Bravissimo!” will be conducted by Sebastian Kranner and directed by Anna Kreinecker.

Performance Dates: Nov. 24, 2024-May 11, 2025

Gottfried von Einem’s “Der Prozess” will be conducted by Walter Kobéra and conducted by Stefan Herheim. Robert Murray, Anne-Fleur Werner, Alexander Grassauer, Timothy Connor, Valentino Blasina, Fabian Tobias Huster, and Lukas Karzel star.

Performance Dates: Dec 5-22, 2024

Pierangelo Valtinoni’s “Der kleine Prinz” will be conducted by Gábor Káli and directed by Louisa Muller. The cast will include Emilie Renard, Wilhelm Schwinghammer, Nina van Essen, Zoltan Nagy, Carina Schmieger, and Alexander Kaimbacher.

Francesco Corti conducts Händel’s “Alcina” with Elsa Dreisig, Sandrine Piau, Emily D’Angelo, Jasmine White, Stefan Sbonnik, Bruno de Sá, and Alex Rosen.

Performance Date: Dec. 19, 2024

Johann Strauss’ “Das Spitzentuch der Königin” will be conducted by Martynas Stakionis and directed by Christian Thausing. Diana Haller, Elissa Huber, Beate Ritter, Regina Schörg, Maximilian Mayer, Michael Laurenz, Istvan Horvath, and Alexander Strömer star.

Christina Pluhar conducts “Balkanroute” with a cast starring Katarina Papadopoulou, Nataša Mirković, Vincenzo Capezzuto, and Céline Scheen.

Herbert Pichler conducts Gisle Kverndokk’s “Briefe von Ruth” in a production by Philipp Moschitz. The opera will star Emily Mrosek, Julia Bergen, Dorothea Maria Müller, Maaike Schuurmans, Alen Hodzovic, and Reinwald Kranner.

Matthew Lock’s “Psyche” will be conducted by Sébastien Daucé. The work will include Lucile Richardot, Élodie Fonnard, Tristan Hambleton, and Etienne Bazola.

Prokofiev’s “Die Verlobung im Kloster” will star Evgeny Akimov, Petr Sokolov, Stacey Alleaume, Elena Maximova, Vladimir Dmitruk, Anna Goryachova, Valery Gilmanov, Zoltan Nagy, Sorin Coliban, Iurie Ciobanu, David Babayants, and Mischa Schelomianski. Dmitry Matvienko conducts the production by Damiano Michieletto.

Performance Dates: March 26-April 9, 2025

Handel’s “The Triumph of Time and Truth” will star Gianluca Buratto, Sonja Runje, Kathrin Zukowski, and Sophie Rennert. Rubén Dubrovsky conducts.

Luciana Mancini stars in Piazzolla’s “Maria de Buenos Aires” with Jorge Espino and Daniel Bonilla-Torres. Juana Inés Cano Restrepo conducts the revival.

Ilaria Lanzino conducts Francesco Gasparini’s “Ambleto” in a production by Martin Hickmann. Raffaele Pe, Mirco Palazzi, Ana Maria Labin, Erika Baikoff, Nikolay Borchev, and Maayan Licht star.

Bononcini’s “Giselda” will be conducted by Benjamin Bayl and will star Sonja Runje, Max Emanuel Cencic, Dennis Orellana, Johanna Rosa, and Tomas Kral.

Chiara Cattani conducts Marianna Martines’s “Isacco” in a production by Eva-Maria Höckmayr. The work will star Christian Senn, Dennis Orellana, Sophie Gordeladze, and Andela Spaic.

Miroslav Srnka’s “Voice Killer” will make its world premiere. Finnegan Downie Dear conducts the production by Stefan Herheim. The production will star Seth Carico, Julian Hubbard, Caroline Wettergreen, Holly Flack, and Nadja Stefanoff.

Lully’s “Proserpine” will be conducted by Christophe Rousset and will star Marie Lys, Oliver Gourdy, Véronique Gens, Ambroisine Bré, Jean-Sébastien Bou, Nick Pritchard, Olivier Cesarini, and David Witczack.
