The Teatro alla Scala has announced a cast change for its production of “Die Walküre.”
The company said that “due to an indisposition, Elza van den Heever will be unable to perform in the performances of ‘Die Walküre.’ The role of Sieglinde will be sung by Vida Mikneviciute in her place.”
Mikneviciute has performed with the Zürich Opera House, Hamburg State Opera, State Theater in Mainz, Staatsoper Berlin Unter den Linden, Latvian National Opera, Opera Stuttgart, Vienna State Opera, Bolshoi Theatre and the Leipzig Opera.
She has performed the role of Sieglinde at the Teatro San Carlo, Staatsoper Berlin Unter den Linden, and Bayreuth Festival, among others.
The soprano will join a cast that includes David Butt Philip, Günther Groissböck, Michael Volle, Camilla Nylund, and Okka von der Damerau. Alexander Soddy and Simone Young conduct the production by David McVicar.
“Die Walküre” will be performed on March 3 and 11, 2026.
