Marina Rebeka to Star in Film ‘In the Land that Sings’

Soprano Marina Rebeka is set to star in the upcoming film “In the Land that Sings” (Working Title).

The new film, directed by Māris Martinsons, is a historical drama set in the second half of the 19th century when the first Latvian Song Festival took place.

Initial production took place between March 9 and 20 in Riga and Ramava and the team will continue shooting in January and the summer of 2022. The film is being produced by Linda Krūkle for K Films.

Rebeka stars alongside renowned Latvian theatre and film actors Andris Keišs, Vilis Daudziņš, and Ģirts Ķesteris.

The soprano is well known for her Bel Canto roles and has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Teatro alla Scala, and Wiener Staatsoper among others. Rebeka is currently preparing a concert for the Dutch National Opera and will perform at the Arena di Verona and in Dortmund.

“In the Land that Sings” will be Martinsons’s tenth film following his award-winning films “Nevajadzīgie ļaudis,” “Amaya,” “New Year’s Taxi,” and “New Year’s Taxi 2.”

The film is expected to be released in spring 2023, the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Song Festival tradition.
