The Grand Théâtre de Genève and Theater Basel have announced that they will remain closed until March 31, 2021. The two opera houses thus join the Opernhaus Zürich, which has already closed until Easter 2021.

Per official statements, the opera houses said they were forced to extend the closure based on the decision of the Swiss Federal Council, which laid out a plan for reopening the cultural sector starting April 1, 2021.

The performances of Mozart’s opera “La Clemenza di Tito” that were on the schedule at Grand Théâtre de Genève on March 1 and 3 are now canceled. The opera was set to star Serena Farnocchia in the role of Vitellia, Anna Goryachova as Sesto, Marie Lys in the role of Servilia, Cecilia Molinari as Annio, Justin Hopkins as Publio, and Bernard Richter in the title role.

Theater Basel has already announced changes for the 2020-21 season.

The premiere of “La Clemenza di Tito” from Grand Théâtre de Genève will be streamed live on the GTG Digital and MEZZO TV on Feb. 19, 2021.
