Theater Basel Announces Changes To 2020-21 Season

Theater Basel has announced changes for two of its scheduled productions in the 2020-21 season.

Per an official statement on the company’s website, Monteverdi’s “Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria” will be postponed until the 2021-22 season, while the production of Mozart’s “Requiem” will be postponed until the 2023-24 season.

“Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria” was supposed to star Jamez McCorkle as Telemachos, Stefanie Knorr as Minerva, Théo Imart in the roles of Pisandro/Juno/Amor, Rolf Romei as Amphinomos/Jupiter/Das Schicksal, Alex Rosen as Antinoos/Neptun/Die Zeit, and Alex Banfield as Eumaios. Johannes Keller was signed on to conduct the production by Krystian Lada.

Mozart’s “Requiem” was supposed to showcase soprano Kali Hardwick, mezzo-soprano Ena Pongrac, tenor Rolf Romei, and bass André Morsch. Ivor Bolton and Francesc Prat set to conduct the production by Romeo Castellucci.

Swiss opera houses have shut down until at least March 2021, per a decision of the Swiss Federal Council. Switzerland is undergoing an ongoing COVID-19 epidemiological crisis, with 2,145 new daily cases on Jan. 23, 2021.
