Gran Teatre del Liceu to Host 2025 ‘Concert for Peace’
By Afton MarkayThe Gran Teatre del Liceu will host the 2025 “Concert for Peace,” in collaboration with the Victoria de los Ángeles Foundation.
This initiative, which began in 2022 in response to the outbreak of war in Ukraine, now returns in favor of peace, solidarity, and understanding between peoples, reaffirming the musical world’s commitment to universal rights. Given the increase in armed conflicts and the number of people affected by war around the world, starting in 2025, the “Concert for Peace” will be held annually in Barcelona at the initiative of the Victoria de los Ángeles Foundation as a symbol of unity through art and as a gesture of support for humanitarian missions led by the Red Cross.
For the first time, an ambassador is being established, and this will change with each edition. Countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński serves as this year’s ambassador. At the concert, he will be joined by soprano Ofelia Sala and mezzo-soprano Helen Charlston, all of whom will perform entirely free of charge.
The Orchestra and Choir for Peace will be made up of volunteer musicians and singers from the country’s leading musical groups, such as the Catalan National Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra and Choir of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Orfeó Català, and the Franz Schubert Filharmonia, among others. Conductors include Josep Pons, Jordi Savall, Antoni Ros-Marbà, Jordi Mora, Daniel Mestre, Maria Mauri, and Pedro Pardo.
As in its first edition, all proceeds will go to humanitarian causes led by the Red Cross, reaffirming the spirit of solidarity that gave rise to the concert in 2022 and which has since grown to become an act of solidarity and peaceful resistance. This year’s concert will be held on June 2, at 7:30 pm.
