Gabrielle Barkidjija Solos in Cantori New York’s 40th Season

Cantori New York has announced the lineup for its 40th season.

First up is the world premiere of “Dear Mountains,” a new commission by composers Karen Ouzounian and Lembit Beecher on themes of the Armenian diaspora. Also on the program is “Exaudi” by Jocelyn Morlock, “In the Beginning” by Aaron Copland, and a selection of Renaissance motets. Mezzo-soprano Gabrielle Barkidjija serves as soloist. Mark Shapiro conducts.

The ensemble’s annual holiday celebration, “A Cantori Holiday” closes out the year.

Performance Dates: December 14 & 15, 2024

Cantori performs the world premiere of Chorus America’s Dale Warland commission, “Like Brothers We Meet,” by Adolphus Hailstork, for chorus and three cellos, with text by George Moses Horton. This program also features the world premiere of the Score Competition winner, “The List of Sunken Ships” by Alisa Zaika, “The Elements” for chorus and two cellos by Philip Lasser, and the US premiere of “Night’s Birds” by Thierry Escaich.

Performance Dates: March 8 & 9, 2025

The “40th Anniversary Concert” at Merkin Hall will close out the season. This program includes Gregory Spears’s “The Tower and the Garden,” Elisenda Fábregas’s “The Flaming Rock,” a new work by Laura Schwendinger titled “Silent Spring,” and a reprise of “In the Beginning” by Aaron Copland. Mezzo-soprano Gabrielle Barkidjija solos with the Bergamot Quartet.
