Italian baritone Angelo Romero has died at the age of 86 years old.

Romero made his operatic debut in 1966 with Monteverdi’s “L’Orfeo.” He eventually broke out in the role of Figaro in “The Barber of Seville”  which became one of his signature roles. He went on to perform the work 600 times between rehearsals and performances. That led him to become a specialist in Rossini.

Over the years, Romero went on to perform 150 operas, ranging from Rossini, Donizetti, Verdi, and Puccini including “Don Pasquale,” ‘Falstaff,” “La bohème,” “L’elisir d’amore,” and “Don Carlo.”

Throughout his career, he went on to perform at many of the great theaters in the world and left several recordings including “Il barbiere di Siviglia,” “Gianni di Parigi,” “Manon,” “Il Campanello,” and “Zaza.”
