On July 29 and August 1, the Savonlinna Opera Festival will close out its festival with concert performances of “Norma.”

The opera will star Lisette Oropesa making her role debut as Norma, John Osborn as Pollione, Ann-Kristin Jones as Adalgisa, and Kristoffer Töyrä as Oroveso.

Riccardo Frizza will reunite with the Göteborg Opera Orchestra and the Göteborg Opera Chorus.

Regarding Norma, Frizza said, “I intend to recreate a fully transparent orchestral texture in which moments of dark, lunar lyricism prepare for the tragedy that looms. This concert performance will give us the opportunity to concentrate on Bellini’s musical fine art, bringing out its lyrical rapture but also its classical visionary nature.”

Speaking with OperaWire in a recent interview Oropesa noted, “I’m studying ‘Norma’ at the moment as well. Norma’s tessitura is pretty much in the same region for most of the role. There are a few low notes…. there are a few high notes. But the stretch of what is required throughout the evening is not as great as ‘Puritani.'”
