FAWN Chamber Creative to Present Concerts to Spotlight Queer Techno-Opera ‘Belladonna’

By David Salazar

FAWN Chamber Creative is set to present two concerts following a week-long co-composition workshop for the queer techno-opera “Belladonna.”

The events, scheduled for Jan. 18 and 19, 2024, will be 45-60 minutes in length and will also include a process discussion following the performance.

The performances will feature such vocal artists as  Teiya Kasahara, Hillary Jean Young, and Rebecca Gray.

Per an official press statement issued by the company, “Rather than a ‘coming out’ story, Mattey’s aim for Belladonna is to focus on a moment of self-reflection and discovery when coming to understand one’s own queerness. FAWN is using a collective creation approach to develop the score, as opposed to more traditional methods of composition, to ensure the musical interpretation reflects the experiences of a community of people.”
