By David Salazar

Voices of the Valiant will present “A Summer Solstice Serenade” on June 21, 2024.

The showcase will feature mezzo-soprano Madison Marie McIntosh and pianist Yinyi Li and includes the world premieres of Manne Von M and Armando Maysonet’s “Letting Him Go” and Walter Seyfartha nd Liche Ariza’s “A las once de la noche.” There will also be a number of renowned opera arias on the program as well a passages from “3:16” and a song by Pat Johnson.

“’3:16′ is an inspirational story of redemption and transformation, loosely based on the real-life experiences of a United States Army chaplain,” said librettist Susan Conti. “The young Mary Raven runs away from a harsh and unloving father, only to discover that the outside world is even crueler. She grows up to be Lieutenant Mary James — steely on the outside but unable to overcome her intense anger and guilt… until she has a miraculous experience that changes everything.”

McIntosh has performed with Caramoor, the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Teatro Nuovo, Sarasota Opera, Teatro Grattacielo, and the Phoenicia International Festival of the Voice, among others.
