For its 2024-25 home season, Ensemble for These Times presents “Women in Transit.”

Opening the 17th anniversary season is “In Motion.” The concert features world premieres by Ursula Kwong-Brown, Darian Donovan Thomas, and Mary Bianco, as well as works by Benjamin Britten, York Bowen, Lisa Bielawa, Vivian Fung, Sage Shurman, and Zhou Tian, with Margaret Halbig at the piano.

“Midnight Serenades: Music by Women and Nonbinary Composers” features works and commissions from the Ensemble’s “Call for Scores” with Luna Composition Lab alums. Music by Gabriela Lena Frank, Jodi Goble, Carla Lucero, and Akshaya Avril Tucker is also performed by sopranos Nanette McGuinness and Chelsea Hollow. They are accompanied by pianist Margaret Halbig and cellist Abigail Monroe.

Ensemble for These Times and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s Technology and Applied Composition department present “Women in Transit” for its fifth multimedia collaboration. The concert featuring Nanette McGuinness explores women’s immigration and identity, with four world premieres.

Performance Date: April 4, 2025

Closing the season is “Mujeres Ahora” starring Nanette McGuinness with Margaret Halbig at the piano. Together they present music by modern Latina composers Gabriela Lena Frank, Tania León, Carla Lucero, Claudia Montero, Angélica Negrón, and Gabriela Ortiz.
