By Nicolas QuirogaBoosey & Hawkes has signed a contract with Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz.
Renowned internationally, Ortiz is the winner of Mexico’s National Award for Arts and Literature and a Guggenheim Fellowship. The composer have been championed by none other than Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel, who has led premieres of Ortiz’s works with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

“Gabriela is one of the most talented composers in the world—not only in Mexico, not only in our continent—in the world. Her ability to bring colors, to bring rhythm and harmonies that connect with you is something beautiful, something unique,” Dudamel said of Ortiz in an interview with NPR.
“I am so excited to sign with Boosey & Hawkes. It is important to me that my music is in wonderful hands and that it can reach a wider international audience. Just the thought of signing with such a major publisher, where I will be listed with wonderful composers, whom I deeply admire, it is an honor,” Ortiz said in an official press statement.
Ortiz trained at the National Conservatory of Music of Mexico before heading to London to continue her studies at Guildhall School of Music and Drama and at The City University in London
