Following the release of 3.5 million Epstein files, it was revealed that conductor Frédéric Chaslin was in contact with the child sex offender, serial rapist, and human trafficker for several years.

Van Magazine first reported that Chaslin was in close contact with Epstein and upon further investigation OperaWire found a least 376 documents on the justice department website linked to Chaslin that went back to 2012, revealing that the conductor and Epstein were friends.

In a document dated Sept. 12, 2023, Chaslin wrote to Epstein “I found a great girl for your next stay in Paris. Student in philosophy 21 Looks a little like roman Polanski’s current wife (Seigner).” Another email noted that “Of course perfectly fluent French English Spanish Her name Frederica Amelia Finkelstein.”

The convicted sex offender responded, “Great,” and “Thanks, we will contact if you send info,” later that day.

On June 12, 2013, Chaslin emailed Epstein noting, “I found the right person for your private visit. Please ask your assistant to call.” That was followed up on June 13, 2013 in which Chaslin moved things around to make time for Epstein. He said, “Did your assistant get in touch with my contact? He’s really the best one at the Paris Opera and I gave him a lot of hassle to try to move all his appointments to be available for you.”

Epstein’s response was “it is all organized, is there csome confustion?”

Other documents revealed that Chaslin had asked Epstein to introduce him to Woody Allen, who has been accused of sexual abuse. He said, “I might soon take the general management of one of the most prestigious theaters in Paris and I’d like to invite Woody Allen to have a full ‘carte blanche’ to stage, perform, etc in the heart of Paris. Could you help to arrange a meeting?”

The documents also revealed a number of meetings and boat rides between Chaslin and Epstein as well as organized tickets for Epstein to The Santa Fe Opera.

At the height of the #MeToo Movement, there was also an exchange between the two that referenced Harvey Weinstein. Chaslin even referred to an issue at Santa Fe Opera. He said, “While the world is getting crazy at chasing men (I had a similar situation =n Santa Fe, I feel for my fellow male species…) there are some goo= things in the cultural field.”

That same year when James Levine was suspended from the Metropolitan Opera, Epstein sent links to news articles reporting his suspension from the Metropolitan Opera. In a response to one of the articles Chaslin wrote, “I knew about all this since 1981 when I was a student in Vienna!”

Chaslin is a famed conductor who has been musical director of the Opéra de Rouen and has conducted at the Wiener Staatsoper, Teatro all Scala Metropolitan Opera, Deutsche Oper, among others. He has served as Music Director of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and chief conductor of the Santa Fe Opera.

Chaslin has not been accused of any wrongdoing. OperaWire wrote to Chaslin’s representative regarding his inclusion in the Epstein files but has not received an immediate response. Any response will be included in an updated version of this story or a follow-up article.
