Chroma to Make Debut With ‘The Welcome Table’
By David SalazarHearing in Color has announced the launch of Chroma, a chamber ensemble dedicated to amplifying the voices of the global majority through music.
The ensemble will make its debut on Nov. 15, 2025 with “The Welcome Table,” a program of works by Reena Esmail, Tania León, and Damien Geter, alongside four world premieres by Steve Wallace, Yiran Zhao, Jalen Scott, and Michael R. Oldham.
The concert, presented in partnership with the Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center, celebrates diasporic voices and builds bridges across communities.
The ensemble features 18 exceptional artists—primarily musicians of color— under inaugural conductor and music director Madeleine Woodworth.
“Chroma asks its artists to embrace individuality as the very source of musical richness,” said Woodworth per an official press release.
“We envisioned Chroma as a space where the voices of marginalized identities are not just represented but find belonging,” added LaRob K. Rafael, Founder and Artistic Director of Hearing in Color; Rafael will co-lead the group with
Woodworth.
