Choral Chameleon to Explore Immigrant Stories in ‘We Are Seeds’

By David Salazar

Choral Chameleon will present “We Are Seeds,” on Nov. 21 and 22, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

The program, which explores immigrant stories of courage, displacement, and renewal, centers on two major works, Castenuovo-Tedesco’s “Romancero Gitano” and the world premiere of “Sometimes I Wonder” by Laura Jobin-Acosta.

Also on the program are Joan Szymko’s “Make Ready Your Beauty,” Rich Campbell’s “Border,” Moira Smiley’s “Refugee,” and Dorothy Robson’s “Winter Wheat” in its New York premiere. There will also be premieres of choral arrangements of Harry Belafonte’s “We Are the Wave,” Paula Cole’s ‘Comin’ Down,” Pete Seeger’s “If I Had a Hammer,” and Laura Nyro and Billy Childs’ “Save the Country.”

“Given the hateful and often false rhetoric we hear about immigrants and refugees, we wanted to introduce choral singing into the conversation to soften the tone, induce empathy, and encourage real dialogue,” said Choral Chameleon founder and Artistic Director Dr. Vince Peterson, per an official press release. “Choral music has a unique way of reaching both the human condition and the human ego at once. We Are Seeds is our way of moving the conversation toward compassion and truth.”
