María Brea & Enriqueta Somarriba to Headline ‘Verses in Song’ at State Theatre New Jersey

By David Salazar

The State Theatre New Jersey will feature soprano María Brea and pianist Enriqueta Somarriba in “Verses in Song” on Nov. 23, 2025, at 3 p.m.

The program, part of the company’s Sound Studio series, will feature works by Henri Duparc, Franz Liszt, Claude Debussy, Florence Price, Aaron Copland, Hugo Wolf, and Joaquín Turina.

“Verses in Song is a celebration of poetry, friendship, and the timeless power of music,” Brea told OperaWire. “Enriqueta and I first met at Manhattan School of Music, and years later, our paths have beautifully converged again through this recital. We’re deeply honored to have been selected to perform in this distinguished recital series at the State Theatre New Jersey, and together we are looking forward to sharing with our audience a journey through these pieces and composers that began years ago in our paths.”

Brea has performed with Opera San José, Arizona Opera, Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra, Opera Essentia, Tucson Symphony, Oratorio Society of New York, and Boston Philharmonic, among others.

Somarriba has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Madrid’s Auditorio Nacional, and the Cervantes Institute of New York, and has collaborated with members of the Metropolitan Opera and Philadelphia Orchestras.
