Charles Castronovo Joins Melos Opera

Tenor Charles Castronovo has joined Melos Opera for management.

Castronovo began his career as a member of the Los Angeles Opera ensemble, later joining the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artists Development Program. In the fall of 1999, he made his Metropolitan Opera debut as Beppe in the premiere of “Pagliacci,” opposite Plácido Domingo. His European stage debut was at the Savonlinna Festival in 2000 as Don Ottavio in “Don Giovanni.” In the 2003/04 season, Castronovo made his debuts at the San Francisco Opera, the Opéra National de Paris, and the Vienna State Opera as Tamino in “Die Zauberflöte,” at Covent Garden as Ferrando in “Così fan tutte,” and made his Italian debut as Alfredo at the Carlo Felice in Genoa.

In recent seasons he has taken on the role of Don Carlos at the Grand Théâtre de Genève and the Opéra National de Paris, Riccardo in “Un ballo in Maschera” at the Metropolitan Opera, Cavaradossi in “Tosca” at the Bavarian State Opera, Pinkerton in Damiano Michieletto’s production of “Madama Butterfly” at the Teatro Real in Madrid, and more. Castronovo has also appeared in productions of rare and lesser-known operas such as, Lalo’s “Le Roi d’Ys,” Gounod’s “Mireille” at the Opéra National de Paris, Massenet’s “Thérèse” at the Montpellier Festival, where he also sang Lalo’s “La Jacquerie.” Castronovo made his debut in Verdi’s “Messa da Requiem” at the Semperoper Dresden with the Staatskapelle and Christian Thielemann, and went on to sing it with Myung-whun Chung, Sir John Eliot Gardiner and Daniel Harding.

His upcoming projects include, “Un ballo in maschera” at the Berlin Staatsoper, “Simon Boccanegra” at the Vienna Staatsoper, “Carmen” at the Athens Opera and the Bavarian State Opera, and “Werther” (debut) at the New National Theatre in Tokyo.

Castronovo’s management is also in collaboration with Zemsky/Green Artists Management INC.
