Charles Castronovo Leads Metropolitan Opera’s ‘Un Ballo in Maschera’

Verdi’s “Un Ballo in Maschera” returns to the Metropolitan Opera for the first time since 2015.

The opera will be presented in David Alden with Italian maestro Carlo Rizzi leading the orchestra. The cast will include Charles Castronovo, Angela Meade, Quinn Kelsey, Liv Redpath, and Olesya Petrova.

Alden’s production was first performed at the Met in 2012 and features set designer Paul Steinberg, costume designer Brigitte Reiffenstuel, lighting designer Adam Silverman, and choreographer Maxine Braham.

“Un Ballo in Maschera” will open on Oct. 20 and will run through Nov. 18. The Oct. 20, Oct. 27, and Nov. 8 performances of “Un Ballo in Maschera” will be broadcast live on Metropolitan Opera Radio on SiriusXM Channel 355. Audio from a fall performance will be rebroadcast over The Robert K. Johnson Foundation–Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network on Feb. 17.
