Brian Jagde, Eleonora Buratto & Luca Salsi to Headline Teatro alla Scala’s 2026-27 Opening Night ‘Otello’

The Teatro alla Scala has announced its cast for the 2026-27 season opening.

As noted the company will open its season with a production of “Otello” directed by Damiano Michieletto under the direction of the company’s new music director Myung-Whun Chung.

The cast will be headlined by Brian Jagde in the title role, alongside Eleonora Buratto as Desdemona and Luca Salsi as Iago.

The opera will open on Dec. 7, 2026.

The news comes as the company also revealed that the 2027-28 season will open with a new production of “Un Ballo in Maschera,” also directed by Luca Guadagnino.

The company also announced that the 2028-29 season would open with the world premiere of “Iago” by Giorgio Battistelli.

Over the years the company has opened with numerous Verdi works, including “Macbeth,” “Don Carlo,” “La Forza del Destino,” and “Giovanni d’Arco.”
