
Stephen Costello, Erika Grimaldi, Elena Stikhina, Piero Pretti to Headline ‘Un Ballo in Maschera’ at 2026 Edinburgh International Festival

The Edinburgh International Festival has previewed its 2026 slate.
Among the major headlines of the four shows previewed is the Zürich Opera House’s production of Verdi’s “Un Ballo in Maschera.” Led by Gianandrea Noseda and directed by Adele Thomas, Verdi’s famed opera will feature two casts. Stephen Costello and Elena Stikhina will play the ill-fated lovers Riccardo and Amelia in one cast, while Piero Pretti and Erika Grimaldi will headline the other one. Other cast members include Dalibor Jenis, George Petean, Yulia Matochkina, Agnieszka Rehlis, Rebecca Olvera, Katharina Konradi, Steffan Lloyd Owen, Brent Michael Smith, Stanislav Vorobyov, Martin Zysset, and Samuel Wallace.
“Un Ballo in Mashera” runs from August 26 – 30, 2026 for a total of four performances.
The Festival also revealed performances with the Berliner Philharmoniker, San Francisco Ballet, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and one with famed actor Wagner Moura.
