
Ukraine’s Philharmonic Hall Damaged by Russian Missile Attack
By Francisco SalazarOn Jan. 31, the Philharmonic Hall which houses the Odesa Philharmonic, was heavily damaged by a Russian missile attack at the center of Odesa.
The news was reported by Ivan Liptuga, Director of the Department of Culture, International Cooperation and European Integration noted that a total of 15 cultural heritage sites were damaged.
According to the director of the Department of Culture, the Philharmonic “suffered the most significant damage in terms of cultural value – the blast wave knocked out the authentic carpentry of the main entrance, damaged large stained glass windows and interior decoration.”
Liptuga also noted that the hall is under UNESCO’s protection.
This is the latest concert venue or historical property that has been affected by the war in Ukraine. Back in 2022, Tchaikovsky’s house in Trostyanets, the northeast part of Ukraine, was destroyed. The Kharkiv Opera was severely damaged following an explosion on Freedom Square, and the theater in Mariupol was destroyed.
