By Afton MarkayTulsa Opera’s newest educational partner, Spotlight on Opera at Tulsa Opera, is bringing nearly 40 students and faculty members from across the US to study, train, and perform in Tulsa this July and August.
The festival-style season includes Mascagni’s “Cavalleria rusticana,” Verdi’s “La traviata,” a concert gala of Puccini’s “Tosca,” “The Hiding Tree” a touring children’s opera, and a series of concerts.
Founder and Director Cindy Sadler, who also serves as Tulsa Opera’s Director of Marketing and Communications. said in a press release, “Our students and faculty are going to be incredibly busy. Everyone’s excited to be in Tulsa for an intense but deeply rewarding summer. I’m especially thrilled that we’ll be so active in the community, with eight children’s performances and eight concerts in different venues, plus five mainstage performances of three operas. And that’s on top of daily lessons, coaching, business and performance classes, master classes, mock auditions, and more. The growth we see in these young artists over just a few weeks is truly inspiring — it’s a joy to witness their transformation.”
Spotlight on Opera at Tulsa Opera kicks off its first season in Tulsa with a free Welcome Concert and Reception on Sunday, July 13 at 7 p.m., at Baden Hall in the Laven Sowell Opera Center.
