By Francisco Salazar

Tri-Cities Opera has announced the premiere of “Acis and Galatea.”

The company has reimagined the Handel work to film in collaboration with the Annapolis Opera. The film will premiere on May 14 and will be streamed on-demand through May 23.

Filmed in various locations, the production features a wedding, dueling guitars, and underscores the resilience of love in the face of jealously and death. The film version stars Amanda Straub, Meroë Khalia Adeeb, and David Walton.

The film is part of the Tri-Cities summer slate which will also include Opera and Beer! sponsored by IBM and will feature an updated English adaptation of Donizetti’s “The Elixir of Love.” The opera will be performed live for an audience. The company will also showcase a modern-day presentation of Puccini’s “La bohème” focused on Asian, Asian-American, and BIPOC youth.
