Tokyo Spring Festival to Present ‘Aida’

The Tokyo Spring Festival is set to stream Verdi’s “Aida.”

The opera, which is set to be performed on April 17 and 20 will star Maria José Siri in the title role, Luciano Ganci, Serban Vasile, Yulia Matochkina, Vittorio Ganci De Campo, and Shoji.

Riccardo Muti will conduct the opera.

In a statement regarding the upcoming performances, Ganci said, “Once again, I’m interpreting the role of Radamès, this time in a concert performance, in which all attention is on the music and the vocal rendition. In my view, an opera in concert form involves a totally different, but not a more straightforward approach, in which the message and emotions have to be transmitted to the audience relying only (hardly the right word) on what Maestro Verdi wrote. It’s a considerable challenge because voices and music must stand in for scenery, costumes, and lighting. It is an honor to have the opportunity to work on this role with one of the greatest conductors in Italy and the world, Maestro Riccardo Muti, with whom I was lucky to get a chance to work many years ago when I debuted as Manrico in Ravenna.”
