By Francisco Salazar

The Sound of Identity” is set to be released in the United Kingdom.

The documentary, about Lucia Lucas, is set to be released on Sept. 12 on UK digital platforms.

The film documents the history-making opera singer, Lucia Lucas, the first transgender woman in America, to perform the lead role in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” on a professional operatic stage.

Directed by James Kicklighter, “The Sound of Identity” premiered at the OutShine Film Festival and has also screened at the Queersicht LGBT Film Festival and Melbourne Documentary Film Festival, among others.

In a recent interview with OperaWire, Kicklighter said, “I hope audiences take away a story of power, about claiming their own narrative. I think that’s the most important thing. If we don’t claim our own destiny and our own life, we’re not ever going to be happy people.”

“The Sound of Identity,” which is currently available in the U.S., will be available on iTunes, Amazon, Sky Store, Google, Microsoft Store, and Chili TV.
