The Crossing Unveils 2024-25 Season
By David SalazarThe Crossing has announced its 20th anniversary season.
“This upcoming 20th season of The Crossing is a season of questions, echoing those of Immanuel Kant: What can we know? What should we do? What may I hope? “While I’m not sure we answer those questions, they are posed in remarkably thoughtful, inspiring, and even joyful works by some of the most creative composers of our time,” said Conductor Donald Nally.
First up is “What Belongs to Me,” a program featuring works by Ayanna Woods, David Lang, Shara Nova, and Gabriela Ortiz.
Performance Dates: Sept. 6 (Gettysburg College) & Nov. 15, 2024 (University North Carolina, Chapel Hill)
The ensemble then heads to Carnegie Hall for “Can We Know the Sound of Forgiveness” featuring the world premiere of the eponymous work by Gabriela Ortiz and Benjamin Alire Sáenz. The piece will be workshopped for two days in Philadelphia at The Performance Garage.
Performance Date: Oct. 18, 2024
The Crossing premieres David Lang’’s “Poor Hymnal” at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center as part of the “The Crossing @ Christmas 2024 series.” The ensemble will also tour “poor hymnal” in Princeton, Iowa, and Nebraska.
Performance Dates: Dec. 21, 2024 (Lincoln Center); Feb. 4, 2025 (Princeton); Feb. 13 (Iowa City); Feb. 14 (Des Moines); Feb. 16, 2025 (Nebraska)
The company will world premiere Sebastian Currier’s “Mysterium” and provide the North American premiere of Linda Catlin Smith’s “Folio.”
Performance Date: Feb. 7, 2025
The Crossing joins forces with the Boston Symphony Orchestra to present Gabriela Ortiz’s “Revolución diamantina.”
Performance Date: Feb. 27 – March 1, 2025
Next up is a concert featuring Gavin Bryars’ “The Last Days of Immanuel Kant.”
Performance Date: June 14, 2025
The season ends with the New York premiere of Aaron Helgeson’s “The Book of Never.
Performance Date: June 20, 2025
