The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine Announces 2025 Lineup

The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine announces its 2025 season.

Death of Classical with The New Consort and Theotokos present the world premiere of a new cantata by Doug Balliett in “Relics & Martyrs.” Other selections include works by Dietrich Buxtehude and Caroline Shaw.

Performance Dates: October 8 – 10, 2025


“The Joy of Christmas: Magnificat!” features the combined Cathedral Choirs and Orchestra. Together they perform J.S. Bach’s “Magnificat in D Major,” and works by composers Alison Willis, Emily Hazrati, and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, as well as traditional hymns.

Performance Date: December 13, 2025


“Evensong with Bishop Robinson” marks the New York premiere of Dominick DiOrio’s “Our Wildest Imagining.” The piece is commissioned by a consortium of organizations, partners, and friends across the United States to honor the Right Reverend V. Gene Robinson, the first openly gay bishop in the Episcopal Church, and all LGBTQIA+ Episcopalians in the Diocese. The moving text is comprised of words from sermons, stories, and sayings by Bishop Robinson as well as quotations from the 27th Psalm.

Closing the season is the “New Year’s Eve Concert for Peace,” founded by Leonard Bernstein in 1984. Soloists and the Cathedral Choir and Orchestra perform Beethoven’s “Ninth Symphony.”
