
Renée Fleming Opens Piedmont Opera’s 50th Anniversary Season
By Francisco SalazarPiedmont Opera, in partnership with Novant Health, will launch its 50th Anniversary Season with two events featuring star soprano Renée Fleming.
Together, the events will explore the transformative power of music to heal, inspire and connect while celebrating the intersection of the arts, science and community.
The first event will take place on Sept. 18 with Fleming will lead Music and Mind: Harnessing the Arts to Heal & Connect at Hanes Auditorium on the campus of Salem Academy and College. Based on her groundbreaking anthology “Music and Mind,” the symposium examines the growing body of research demonstrating how music and the arts can support mental, emotional and physical well-being.
Fleming will be joined by Dr. Venkata Chivukula, Dr. Stephen Cockburn, Dr. Steven Meadows, and Christine P. Leist.
Then on Sept. 19, Fleming will perform “Voice of Nature—The Anthropocene,” an immersive concert inspired by her acclaimed collaboration with National Geographic. Combining music, stunning imagery and storytelling, the performance explores humanity’s relationship with the natural world while examining themes of environmental change, scientific discovery and our shared future.
