IN Series will open its 2026–27 season with “The M.A.K.A.do: Make America Kingly Again! An Operatico-Politico-Buffo-Satirico…” this October.

The new satirical reimagining of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Mikado” will take the stage at The Kogod Cradle at the Arena Stage Mead Center for American Theater in Washington, D.C. from Oct. 10 through 18 before moving to the Baltimore Theater Project from Oct. 23 through 25.

The production features an entirely new libretto by Bari Biern and a re-orchestrated score by IN Series Artistic Director Timothy Nelson arranged for a John Philip Sousa-style band. The cast includes Andrew Adelsberger, Robin McGinness, Hunter Shaner, Greg Slikovich, and Teresa Ferrara, among others. Dana Scott serves as music director.

“IN Series’ 2026-2027 season positions its art in opposition to all forms of tyranny, even cancel culture itself. Our production not only dares to show how ‘cancelled’ works can actually be performed in ways that make them powerful today, but also uses this opera to lampoon American politics and society. Comedy, like music, is uniquely able to do this in a way wrapped with joy, respect, and love,” Nelson said, per an official press release.
