Surrey Opera to Present ‘Madeline’

By Francisco Salazar

Surrey Opera is set to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a production of the new opera “Madeline.”

The world premiere is composed by David Hackbridge Johnson with a libretto by  Jonathan Butcher.

In a press statement Surrey Opera noted that the music for “Madeline” “is epic yet accessible and echoes the Scottish background of the piece. Based on a true story – this is a question of ‘Did she do it?’ rather than a ‘Who done it.'”

The opera will be presented on Sept. 30 and Oct. 2, 2021 at the Harlequin Theatre, Redhill, England.

The Surrey Opera is a semi-professional English opera company based in Croydon, providing opera in Surrey, Sussex and Kent. The company offers opportunities to emerging professional opera singers and has world premiered two operas.
