Sonya Yoncheva’s Arena di Verona ‘Traviata’ to be Broadcast

The Arena di Verona is set to broadcast Verdi’s “La Traviata” in September.

The production will be filmed with a cast that includes Sonya Yoncheva, Vittorio Grigolo, and George Petean and conducted by Francesco Ivan Ciampa. Performances will be held on August 7 and 19 and then broadcast on ZDF Sept. 5 and then on 3sat on Sept. 11.

The production will reunite Grigolo and Yoncheva following their gala performance last year in Verona and a production of “Tosca” at the Metropolitan Opera. It will also see Yoncheva’s return to the role of Violetta which she has performed to great acclaim at the Metropolitan Opera, the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Paris Opera, Royal Opera Covent Garden, Zurich Opera, and in a new production at Staatsoper Unter den Linden.

This season the Arena di Verona has filmed numerous productions including “Cavalleria Rusticana,” “Pagliacci” and “Aida.”
