Metropolitan Opera Announces Cast Change for ‘Madama Butterfly’

The Metropolitan Opera has announced a cast change for its performance of “Madama Butterfly” on April 26, 2024.

Jonathan Tetelman withdrew from the performance and took to social media and said, “I’m very sorry to report that I am still unwell and must withdraw from my ‘Madama Butterfly’ appearance at the Met Opera tonight. I’m greatly looking forward to returning to the stage on Tuesday. I wish all my wonderful colleagues a huge TOI TOI TOI and great success! Thank you for your kindness and understanding.”

As a result, Chad Shelton will take on the role of Pinkerton. This season Shelton performed Father Grenville in Dead Man Walking.”

He is set to join a cast that includes Asmik Grigorian, Lucas Meachem, and Elizabeth DeShong. Xian Zhang conducts the production by Anthony Minghella.
