Second Glyndebourne Opera Cup Set For March 2020

The Glyndebourne Opera Cup is set to make its return in 2020.

The event, which was announced on Glyndebourne’s official website, will feature its final on March 7, 2020; it will be broadcast live via Sky Arts. The semifinals are set for March 4, 2020.

In announcing the competition’s return, Glyndebourne has revealed that the competition will be opening its application process between Sept. 1, 2019 through Oct. 20. The competition will be viewing auditions in such cities as London, Berlin, Paris, New York, Cape Town, Vienna, and Milan.

The Jury for the competition will include Stephen Langridge, Steven Naylor, Joan Matabosch, Michel Franck, Maria Mot, Sumi Jo, Sir Thomas Allen, and Dame Felicity Lott. Dame Janet Baker will serve as honorary president.

In this year’s edition, singers will be invited to perform music by Mozart, Rossini, and a selection of 19th century composers.

The competition was first held in 2018 with U.S. Mezzo-soprano Samantha Hankey being its first champion.
