By David Salazar

Sarasota Opera has announced two summer training opportunities for young singers: the Sarasota Youth Opera Summer Camp and the newly launched Sarasota Opera Vocal Academy.

The Youth Opera Summer Camp, led by Sarasota Opera’s professional artistic and production staff, offers sessions in singing, acting, physical comedy, and production disciplines including sets, props, wigs, makeup, and costumes. No auditions are required.

Singers ages eight to 10 may enroll in a two-week session running June 8–19 at a tuition of $350, while singers ages 11 and above may enroll in a three-week session running June 8–26 at a tuition of $525. Registration closes May 8.

The Sarasota Opera Vocal Academy, new to the company’s educational offerings this year, is a six-day intensive for pre-college singers running July 7–12. The curriculum focuses on vocal technique, collegiate audition repertoire, and operatic history, with daily one-on-one coaching in music, language, and drama from working professionals. The program culminates in a showcase for invited guests. Tuition is $600.
