San Francisco Opera to Hold Online Costume Sale

By Logan Martell

San Francisco Opera has announced that it will be holding an online sale of costumes worn by artists on the stage of the War Memorial Opera House, allowing opera fans and costume lovers the chance to purchase some of these rare ensembles.

The sale will begin at 12pm on Friday, Nov. 13, and will run until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15.

The collection features over 500 costumes from SFO’s productions of works, such as 2001’s “The Merry Widow,” the company’s ’90, ’96, and ’06 productions of “Die Fledermaus,” its 2007 production of “Tannhauser,” and more. Among the designers of these costumes are Thierry Bosquet, John Macfarlane, and Paul Brown among others. Costumes pieces cannot be purchased separately.

Prices range between $75 and $1,000 plus shipping and taxes; pick-up is available by appointment for those near Burlingame, California. Proceeds for this sale will go towards operating costs for San Francisco Opera, including artist support and young artist development programs.
